Loss in the Outdoors Grant

This financial needs-based grant offers financial support for individuals in need of extra financial assistance and/or pursuing therapeutic services based on being directly impacted by grief, loss, and/or trauma related to climbing, ski mountaineering or alpinism. The grant award is up to $7500 and is intended to be used toward individual therapy, rent assistance, food assistance, or a professional program that engages a grief or trauma framework.  

Grant applications will be reviewed for the following criteria:

  • Applicant is a resident of southern Montana

  • Applicant is experiencing distress due to grief or trauma related to climbing, ski mountaineering, or alpinism;

  • Applicant states financial need

  • Applicant has not previously received a Loss in the Outdoors Fund grant. 

  • Applicants who have not been able to access prior therapy or treatment shall be prioritized

You may apply for this grant at any time.  Please fill out our application and feel free to use our Loss in the Outdoors mental health directory to find a therapist or program of your choosing. You may select a therapist or program that is not listed in our directory.

All grant applications will remain confidential. We will notify you of approval within 6 weeks of submission.

Grief Peer Support Groups

Loss in the Outdoors (Bozeman) ||Monthly meeting peer support group facilitated by Justin Short at Ridgeline Counseling. Please note these meetings are only offered in person.

If you have health insurance:

Many insurance companies will help finance therapy and counseling services. Be sure to check if your therapist is in network, and what your plan will cover.

If you don’t have health insurance:

Check if your selected therapist offers a sliding scale rate that will base on your income, or alternative payment options.
